SLIO© IO Controllers
Performance and Application
SLIO© is designed for large decentralised automation tasks in the manufacturing and process industries. SLIO expands key solutions and is integrated with the help of the device master files into existing fieldbus infrastructure. The new backplane bus concept built into the interface modules in SLIO© enable very short response times for signal processing.
Functions
A variety of signal modules are available for the connection of sensors and actuators for acquiring digital and analog signals to and from the process. For positioning, path measurement, counting tasks and other functions further modules are continuously being developed.
Communication
SLIO© includes interface modules (fieldbus slave modules) with different fieldbus protocols by which the system, manufacturer-independent, can be integrated into most automation concepts.
SLIO© can be combined and applied with each of the established VIPA PLC control systems 100V, 200V, 300S, 500S. It’s one of the most effective and modern distributed I/O systems available on the market. It combines high functionality with a clever mechanic concept in an extremely compact design.

SLIO©: Clamp Modules
Clamp modules are passive modules for 2- or 3-wire installations, whose contacts are electrically connected internally through the modules intergrated backplane bus. The purpose of the module is to provide multiple power supply connections, three variants are available giving 8 connections for +24V DC or 8 connections for 0V DC or 4 connections of each. Through the application of the clamp modules, distributed power can be realised easily and it enables the connection of active supplied sensors like proximity switches. Wiring is via a timesaving and secure cage clamp system. The clamp modules are fixed on the mounting surface by means of a 35mm DIN rail.

200V: Analogue Signal modules
The analogue signal modules are one of the interfaces to connect sensors and actuators from the physical, real world process being controlled to the PLC. Analogue signal modules acquire the analogue control signals (e.g. measurement data) from the process level. Analogue output modules convert the internal digital control signals into analogue signals suitable for the process equipment. The analogue modules differ in the number of channels, voltage and current ranges.Characteristics

200V: Communications Processors
Communications processors are used to connect different target and source systems, e.g. via Ethernet to higher-level ERP systems or serially to scanners, printers and other peripherals. CP 240 – Serial – The communication processors CP 240 is available in as two different variants which enable serial process coupling to different target and source systems. Depending on the module selected either RS232 or a RS422/485 interface is available. CP 240 – EnOcean wireless – The CP 240 EnOcean enables wireless communication. EnOcean is a battery-free radio system that, due to the short signal duration of 0.5 ms and 10 mW transmitting power, has an energy requirement of only 50 µWs. The system uses the energy from the smallest changes in pressure or temperature to power the sensors. CP 240 – M-Bus – The CP 240 M-Bus module enables the Metering Bus communication protocol. The M-Bus System is a European standardised 2-wire fieldbus for acquiring consumption data. In this case the data is transmitted serially via a reverse polarity protected 2-wire line from slave systems (meters) to a master system.Characteristics

200V: Function Modules
Function modules are intelligent modules that perform tasks such as, counting and position determination, and other complex independent functions that are essential in many automation processes. They are used when there are high demands on accuracy and in very dynamic automation tasks. FM 250 – SSI Modules – The SSI module enables the connection of absolute encoders with an SSI interface. The module converts the serial information of the encoder into parallel information and makes this available to the controller. There is an option to transmit the data in either grey or binary code. In addition to the SSI signals clock, data and encoder supply there are two additional outputs that can be set or reset when crossing. FM 250 – Counter – The counter module counts the pulses of the connected sensor and then processes these stimuli according to the selected functionality. The modules have 2 or 4 channels with either 32 bit or 16 bit resolution. There are 20 counter modes and two DC 24 V outputs, which are controlled depending on the mode. FM 253/254 – Positioning Modules – Positioning modules can be used for point-to-point positioning and for complex travel profiles with the highest requirements for accuracy or speed. The FM 253 is a Positioning module for controlling a stepper motor. Stepper motors are used when maximum torque at low speeds is required and the target position is to be achieved and maintained without overshooting. The FM 254 is a positioning module for controlling a servo drive. The module operates independently and is controlled by a corresponding application program from the CPU. The module has 3 inputs for connecting limit switches and can control 2 outputs.Characteristics

300S: PLC CPU Modules
The Central Processing Unit (CPU) control and regulate processes in plant and machinery. The CPUs are selected according to application with the appropriate performance and memory and can be extended with signal and function modules, as well as communication processors. The 300S CPUs are designed so they are command compatible to Siemens STEP7. They are suitable for medium and large applications.
The CPUs are based on the SPEED7 technology in which the CPU is supported by co-processors. The integrated SPEED7 ASIC chip is among the world’s fastest automation systems.

MicroPLC
The new MICRO PLC is a up to date, compact and fast PLC, which will replace the well-proven
but aging System 100V. Designed as a stand-alone PLC it stands out because of its modern design, its compact size, its high performance, and its high channel density.
The new MICRO is extremely compact, with a width of less than 72 millimeters, the VIPA MICRO PLC is up to 50% smaller than typical MICRO controllers.
In combination with this compactness the MICRO is based on SPEED7 technology for the highest clock rates and fast program processing. Additional speed benefits allow a fast backplane bus transmission of 48 Mbit/s. With the excellent CPU performance the MICRO PLC is the fastest MICRO controller on the current controller market.
An additional plus factor is the high channel density of the MICRO. With 30 integrated digital and analog I/O channels on board it offers multiple usage options as a stand-alone CPU too, and can be expanded with up to eight modules. By maximum module expandability, the user has up to 158 I/O channels available for his automation tasks.
The connection plugs of the MICRO are individually detachable and therefore suitable for the pre-wiring in the series launch. Equipped with the convenient push-in technology they can be mounted and replaced quickly and easily, and without tools. The allocation of the I/O display LEDs directly on the appropriate plug connection allows the user an easy and clear allocation of the channel status even at such a high channel density.
Additionally, the MICRO is equipped with an integrated web server, which allows arbitrary access via smartphone, laptop & Co. on data, diagnostics and status interfaces as well as freely definable visualization projects.
There is an active 2-port-switch for online access, programming, and communication. So the functional range of the MICRO can simply be extended by further planned features by means of a firmware update. In addition to standard Ethernet protocols such as Modbus TCP or S7 communication, the MICRO also allows PROFINET, this means that up to eight PROFINET devices can be easily connected as well as a variety of other PROFIBUS features.
In the basic version, the MICRO has 64 kByte work memory which can be expanded up to max.
128 kByte via VSC. A big advantage of the MICRO is that data and status are saved in the event of a power failure and no further safety measures are necessary.
The new MICRO PLC can be used as a high-performance, small or micro controller in both serial and special machine construction as well as central or decentralized control in the field of plant construction. Of course, because of its compact construction size it is perfectly suitable for the building automation and the installation in sub-distributors.
