Goodwin Products

Goodwin Electronics has not only produced bespoke solutions for customers but also has a collection of their own products, these items range from units that can be used as general purpose development platforms to serial IO units and CAM controllers. Often our own products can be tailored for customer specific requirements without the need for a new custom PCB as all of the design and software work for our products is carried out in house.

Manuals and data sheets for our products can be found on our FAQ page.

Goodwin Electronics has previously produced different digital readouts and cam controllers over the years and a particularly popular unit was the MC16 which has been used in industries such as food processing.

The MC16 electronic cam unit is designed and manufactured by Goodwin Electronics. A compact and rugged product it is ideal for use by high volume users and system builders. The MC16 is enclosed in a panel mounted case to give it adequate protection against abuse on the shop floor. The keypad is reverse screen printed and the buttons give tactile feedback when pressed. The red seven segment LED displays provide a good user friendly interface when programming and setting up.

As with all our products, the programming has been made as simple as possible. There is no need to learn complex programming languages. This legacy product has 16 outputs, 3 inputs and detects position using a 9 bit Grey code absolute encoder, the unit originally developed using 6501 CPU has, due to popularity, been updated to uses a Renesas Microcontroller.

The MicroSTOP PCB is our latest addition to the Goodwin range, designed as a simple low cost platform for control and monitoring applications the PCB includes a small number of digital IO and analogue inputs with additional development scope for supplementary options such as user display, keypad or USB/SD card interfacing allowing for potential for data logging projects.

The SIO unit was originally intended as a remote serial IO node using serial Memobus protocol allowing monitoring and control of upto 32 digital inputs and outputs as well as upto 4 analogue inputs and outputs and 2 channels of encoder inputs.

The PCB used within the unit was found to be so versatile that it was re-used using custom firmware for various customer projects and eventually used on PC501 PC replacement as well as other proof of concept developments.

Legacy Goodwin Products and Customer Specific Products

The Goodwin legacy products represent equipment Goodwin have previously produced and continue to support, over our history we have designed, built and supplied a variety of equipment and a range of digital readouts, CAMs and multi-axis motion controllers.

Over the past 40 years Goodwin have produced for a diverse range of industries and customers including controllers and displays for the surface grinder industry, controllers for the water treatment industry, timers and displays for sunbed manufacturers, test equipment for aerospace industry, as well as motion controllers for OEM manufacturers and retrofitters.

Below represents a sample of the products we have previously manufactured and distributed.

Goodwin Electronics Measurement Systems (GEMS) were designed to make machining operations faster and more precise, to reduce scrap, and to help you produce higher quality work.

A Digital Readouts eliminated counting machine handwheel turns and gave a clear display of the position of the machine on a large 7 segment LED display based on the scale fitted directly to the machine. The Digital Readout displays include +/- symbols and could display axis distance relative to a user zero’d point, scale resolutions of 0.1 mm to 0.001mm are available. Digital Read Out (DROs) units were originally based around a now discontinued CPU however we can still support and if necessary developed modern solutions to replicate units popular with customers who often appreciate larger clearly visible 7 segment displays and wipe clean membrane keyboard within industrial environments.

Examples of units include: GEM31, GEM32Y, GEM32Z, GEM33, GEM21, GEM51, Exec 2A, and EXEC 3A.

Goodwin Electronics’ award-nominated Multistop motion control system combined versatility and ease-of-use in a device designed to provide a ‘motion control in an instant’ package.
The Multistop’s versatility made it ideally suited to a wide range of applications including drilling
machines, robotics, fast changeover stops and back stop positioners. The fully integrated controller offers up to 2 axes of linear or angular servo control using absolute or incremental positioning using analogue reference output, coupled with 24 digital inputs & 24 digital outputs.

The controller required neither a PC for programming nor HMI for information display, resulting in a reliable and user-friendly product designed for optimum operational efficiency. Programming
simplicity is achieved with the use of Goodwin’s ‘PowerTalk’ language and simple keyboard.

The RC16 and 32 were Electronic Cams with either 16 or 32 outputs accordingly, these devices were ideally suited for the myriad applications where angular command based on positions are needed.

The Electronic Cam has none of the financial handicaps of the multi-purpose PLC systems otherwise available and very simple programming is achieved using step by step commands to input (in degrees) the ON and OFF switching points, feedback data is from a bidirectional incremental or absolute encoder.

No ancillary software is required to support the Electronic Cam and a sealed and tactile keypad can be used for data edits and updates may be interchanged with initial programmed values whilst the Cam is in the RUN mode.

Examples of units include: RC16, RC32, and FMC40
